UK projects
PURE offers grants to UK schools and charities to install solar panels, wind turbines and other zero/low carbon energy technologies.
PURE provides match funding to projects that meet the requirements of the Low Carbon Buildings Programme and/or the Community Sustainable Energy Programme - both of which are administered by our partner BRE. These programmes require the organisations receiving grants to use properly accredited technologies and installers, to ensure that the projects are effective. BRE also conducts analysis of the projects to ensure that the charity receives value for money in the projects that it funds.
To date, PURE has supported 24 projects in the UK, primarily for installing solar panels on schools.
Currently it is not possible for PURE to use these projects to offset emissions as they are excluded from the Government’s Quality Assurance Scheme for Carbon Offsetting. We are however working with the BRE Trust to research possible standards for offsetting projects in the UK.
If you would like to make a donation to support projects in the UK, please email us us for further details.
Below are two UK projects funded by PURE:
The Vassall Centre Trust, Bristol, is a UK charity providing employment and voluntary opportunities for disabled people.
PURE funding contributed towards the installation of solar panels, providing clean energy for the 50,000 people who use the Vassall Centre each year.
Reducing energy costs frees up valuable charity funds for other projects.
Macmillan Academy is a large school that attracts students from a wide geographical area across Middlesbrough including many from areas of significant social deprivation.
PURE has provided matched funding for the installation of two small wind turbines on the southern edge of its playing field.
As well as saving on energy costs, the wind turbines are part of Macmillan Academy’s commitment to sustainability, which is one of the seven key values in its mission statement. Macmillan also has a pupil-led Eco Council.
